So, how does a Boy Scout Troop end up with Roman Numerals on their sleeve? Does this troop really have DXVI on their Scout uniforms? Does anyone know that DXVI is 516?
Well, here is the story as to how we became DXVI. In 1994 our troop went to Camp Meriwether on the Oregon Coast (great camp by the way). At that camp, as with most, there are various awards that can be earned. It was discovered there were two troops with the numbers of 516. This created a problem because when it came time to hand out the awards no one was really sure which Troop 516 was the one that had earned the awards. Obviously a dilemma ensued! The Scouts, along with some adults, decided to remedy the situation, but of course the question was, how? We still needed to identify ourselves as 516, but needed a way to show who we are.
So, coming up with a unique way of showing who we are, Roman Numerals were decided upon.
D = 500
X = 10
V = 5
I = 1
Put it all together and you have
